Saturday Night

Hello friends!
We arrived safely in Jackson around 11:00 p.m. last night (Friday).  We saw the Lord’s provision all throughout our travel journey here, both in big and small ways.  Once we settled into the house for the evening, everyone was exhausted (many had been up for 19 hours at this point), so after singing a couple of songs and spending some time in prayer, everyone went to bed pretty fast.

This morning we were up early and ready to work in the heat!  We spent the morning at We Will Go Ministry, a missions focused community committed to intentionally serving their neighborhood.  Before starting any community service work, we spent time in devotion and prayer.  It was a powerful time for us as we were challenged to quiet our hearts and hear what the Lord is saying to us, not just in that moment, but every day.   Our various tasks this morning included everything from yard work (which Bob, Joel, Casey and Max all took part in this morning), working in their free clothing store (which Hannah and Jessie took part in), setting up for church in the morning and cleaning up their Bible study area (something that I helped with), cleaning up their food pantry (Taylor, Matt and Marcel all took part in this) and painting (Alexis took part in this).  We then had lunch at We Will Go, which gave us a chance to meet some of the students we will be working with at our Vacation Bible School later this week.

This afternoon we went to downtown Jackson to a museum for about an hour to see the history of Jackson and then headed to Walmart to get enough food to get us through Tuesday, enough to fill three refrigerators.
Tonight we had a trip to the Mississippi River and arrived right around sunset.

Thank you for your prayers for our group so far.  It has been great to see the ways the Lord is working through our large group of forty one!  God has really brought our team together and after just one full day students are seeing one another as team members and not just “kids from the other church.”  We also have seen great attitudes and patience in the midst of the heat and difficult situations.
Love and blessings,

Hi Everyone, this is Bob
It was a long travel day yesterday, but God had his helpers in place for us.  Delta opened two ticket counters for us so we could be processed quickly.  They also honored the 8 free luggage bags to those of us who applied for Delta Sky Miles AmEx card.
The Budget Rental Car Mgr processed the paperwork for the four, 15 passenger vans with all related discounts.  We squeezed all the luggage in with 10-11 people per van.
My favorite moment of yesterday was on the flight.  A woman was split between her and her 2 kids.  She couldn’t leave her youngest by himself, so she asked Marcel if he would switch so she could sit with her boy.  Marcel didn’t hesitate, but his new seat was a little away from the rest of the group.  As he started to enter the row, he looked back at us and gave that look of a lost puppy and we all smiled and laughed.  He did get extra leg room being in an emergency row, though.
Amazing day today with We Will Go.  Amy Lancaster and her family bought a home in the middle of one of the worst neighborhoods in Jackson(less than 1 mile from the State Capitol Bldg).  With very little assistance from the police, the alcoholics, drug addicts and drug dealers have left the area.  Homes have been refinished and lives restored due to the consistent message that God loves you, Jesus is your Savior and your life is meant for so much more.  It’s amazing to see how their prayers have been answered due to their faithfulness , trust, persistence and perseverance.
Amy challenged us today in morning prayer.  Ask God what he needs . Listen to what God is telling you, what he is saying to you today(and everyday).  So many times we go to him with our problems asking him to help us, to take away our burden.  He gladly does this, but what a gift to ask God what he needs and how he can use us as His instruments to help fulfill His plan.
Everyone is pitching in and getting along(we now appear as one group vs two).  We have been split into cooking groups where everyone contributes and als includes the cleaning of the house.  Thank you for your continued prayers as they have helped to sustain us in the warm temperatures and close quarters(vans or the house).
Serving In Him
